 In - Site

As part of the Material and Space Studio during the first semester of the MA program wwe had to develop a proposal for a low cost pavilion within the building site of the new Aarhus Hospital. The scope of the project was to create a multidisciplinary space where students, professionals and teachers could use as a learning by doing space. The project was an internal competition where the winning project was to be built. The budget for it was  140.000 euros  and the pavilion had to incorporate a large mock-up space, a common space for students with a small kitchenette and a space for lectures and classes. The project was destined to host both architecture students and engineering students from Aarhus University, during the execution of the hospital.

For this project we attended several workshops where the school provided materials to build 1:1 models for our designs, a visit to the AA summer camp in Hook Park, UK  or to Peter Zumtor’s Serpentyne Pavilion. At the end our team was granted with the second place. The concept was  to stack all the functions in order to create a strong architectural element within the site as well as to have an compact energy efficient structure. The interior walls were done out of full sized boards 1200x2400 so they can be reused as well as the polycarbonate façade.
